Friday, February 13 is a day that Anthony Douglas will never forget. It was the day he was named Cari-Med Employee of the Year for 2014. For the 24 year old employed as a Warehouse Associate 2 at the Consumer warehouse, this was the crowning moment of his short but impressive career with the company. After having scored a 98.8 percent average on his 2012/13 appraisal, and a 99 for the following two years, Anthony had felt that he was in good stead to bring home the top award. Yet he admits to being stunned to hear his name called out at the employee awards ceremony, and actually looked around to see if there was another Anthony Douglas. “Then I realized it was me, and my heart swelled with joy”, he recalls.

Staff Awards 2014

Anthony accepts his award from director Mrs. Marva Christian while Chairman Mr. Glen Christian looks on.

Anthony joined Cari-Med in 2011, and worked in the Inventory Department for four months before being assigned to Picking. Supervisor Marcia Rush remembers how the charismatic young man impressed everyone with his drive to excel. “We realized he was willing to learn …he was always taking an interest in everything… asking a lot of questions and wanting to be part of the company. He exceeded his quota each month. His zone was always in order and he was always able to tell you the exact zone that each item was in”.

Anthony was introduced to cross training in the Inventory Department. He caught on quickly, and was soon promoted to Warehouse Clerk, Inventory Department where, Ms. Rush recalls, he consistently exceeded what was required of him and was always coming up with suggestions for innovations. “For example, he was required to produce a short- dated report, but he went on to produce sub-reports that he felt would be useful. Whatever task he is given, is done with excellence. I therefore had no reservations in nominating Anthony as Employee of the Year.”

Anthony dedicates his award to the memory of his late friend Mark Black who had always displayed absolute faith in his abilities. He is also full of praise for his mentors within the company – among them supervisors Marcia Rush, Norbert Myles, Lloyd Bell, and managers Ian Graham and Esmie Robinson. He credits these persons with helping to shape his growth, not only professionally, but personally.

For him the award is made that much sweeter because of his great respect for Cari-Med. He explained, “When I saw my photo in the Observer I wanted to cry. For me as a young man, to be Employee of the Year in a company like Cari-Med is a great achievement. It spells scores and speaks volumes”.
